The Barton Group is a team comprised of three policyholder-owned (mutual)
insurance companies located in Missouri:
Barton County Mutual: Until 1969, the company was a single-county
farm fire insurer. They are now a state-wide insurer offering a broad array
of products and writing Homeowner, Farmowner, Mobile Homeowner, and Commercial
properties.
Cape Mutual: The former Merchants and Mechanics Mutual Aid Society
joined the Barton Group in 1982 as Cape Mutual. It now serves the retired
population exclusively and provides Homeowners, Farmowners, and Mobile
Homeowners to retirees.
Gateway Mutual: Joining the Barton Group in 1986, Owensville
now provides a Homeowners-type insurance product tailored to older homes.
It is also the placement facility for hard-to-insure vacant properties
and other properties not easily classified.
